The Fightin' Texas Aggie Band
Class of 1954

This page is a great asset to us all.  I even found a missing  piece of data concerning Bob (Robert G.) Porter!  I would like to include as an attachment to this note my latest roster of the '54 band members.  It seems I had volunteered to be our unit class agent during a weak moment at a 'fish band' meeting back in '50.  ( Frank Chaney could be very persuasive)  My conscience got the beter of me several years ago and this list is the result to date.  Thanks again  G.B. (Jerry) McClure '54.

Bledsoe, Ralph, 1540 Elgin Court, Keswick, VA, 22947-9133, RRBLED@aol.com
Ralph has done very well for himself and the country, serving in the AF during 1955-58.  He then received his Masters and Doctorate Degrees from UCLA and USC.  Like many of our group, Ralph has served as an educator, policy maker, administrator, and corporate executive.  He also has the distinction of being a special assistant to President Reagan at the White House.   Ralph retired from the US Government in January 1996.  He and Rose Marie have managed to find time to raise 4 daughters, who they 'get to see from time to time' along with the 7 grandkids.  Glad to have him aboard!
Boehler, Ernest A., 7601 NW 19th St., Bethany, OK, 73008,  phone: 405.787.8469, quescat@worldnet.att.net
Ernie seems to be doing well at last report.  He says that this years' Wing reunion is in Langley, and next year's will be in Phoenix. Maybe we can get together again then.  He and June have 1 son and 1 daughter.
Brogdon, William B., 1100 River Bend Drive, Dallas, TX 75146, phone: 972.218.7728
Still no response but Stan Thomas has provided an address correction for him as noted.  Those of you in Dallas; look him up and give him a call!  Hugh  P. would like to contact him.
Clark, Richard E., 9609 Cove Meadow Dr., Dallas, TX, 75238,  phone: 888.321.2979, reclark@mymail.net
Dick dropped me a note saying that all is well with him and wife Marysue.  They have a son and a daughter.  They also have 4 grandsons, ages 10 to 9 months, which is enough to keep everyone busy!  Son David is class of '88, and Amy is in class of  '90. Remember that tax time is upon us and Dick has several books out about helping you with your taxes?  Check-in with him for details.
Coleman, John D., 705 15th St., Canyon, TX, 79015, phone: 806.685.9680, Sandra134@juno.com
John is one of our fish banders', but left after the first year for Vet School.  He is retired and splits his time between building houses and kitchens for the kids in Canyon and at his home in McLean, just to  'get away from the big city'.  John and Sandra have 1 son and 2 daughters.
Darville, Wayne, 3727 Dover, Odessa, TX, 79762, ,
Still no response at this address.    The Book lists him as married to LaVon, with 1 son and 2 daughters.
Dickey, Billy R., PO Box 901763, Sandy,  UT  84090
Still no response at the noted address.  This guy is hard to find!  The Book lists him as married with 4 sons and 2 daughters.
Douthet, Douglas, 808 Pine Grove Ln., Longview, TX, 75604, phone: 903.297.8323
Doug has no e-mail as of yet, but has checked in.  He is doing well in Longview with Jeanene, his wife of 40 or so years, and his daughter and her husband. Like so many of us, their health has been better but everything is currently on the mend.  The 2-3 mile daily walks through the piney woods probably have a lot to do with that. Doug retired from Texaco
after 35 years as assistant to the Division President.  Not bad for a country boy!
Duke, Melvin , No valid address since Milwaukee, WI ; moved 7/97.
Fulgham, Sid,  HC 74 Box 2AB, Bastrop, TX, 78602; phone: 512.303.6601, SFulg56879@AOL.com
Sid retired as a Colonel after 30 years with the AF, is married and has 3 daughters.  He has spent his free time, for many years, selling real estate in Bastrop.  He could probably help us find a retirement place?
Furqueron, John D., 2410 Lotus St., Wichita, Kansas 67213-2850, phone: 316.945.6601
John's address was provided by Al Gist almost a year ago, but no response at the noted address to date.  The book lists he and Stephanie as having 1 son and 1 daughter.   This has been received (10/03) from John's son: 'John is still alive and kickin' in Wichita, retired from the Air Force after 26 years..  The address and phone number listed are still correct.'  John Jr. says he will be sure to get Sr. to the 50th reunion at A&M next year..  He has no e-mail address but he can be reached at John jrs' which is:
                       "John Furqueron" john@solids.com

Garner, Andy M., 5141 The Oaks Circle, Orlando, FL, 32809,  phone 407.859.2862, Amgarner@email.msn.com
Andy retired initially from Martin Marietta in 1991.  He then started working for an old friend and retired in 1995, 1998 and now is finally retired!  He reports that the Aggie tradition continues.. his granddaughter is a 'fish' this year!  Last I heard, Andy has 'lots of room at his place in Orlando' so come on down!  Sorry to report that back in '98, after 43 years of marriage, he suddenly lost that cute blonde he brought to many a football game.  We'll miss her also.
Gist, Albert N., 848 Elkins Lake, Huntsville, TX, 77340, phone:  409.435.9314, alnan@totalzone.com
Al worked for Exxon, after his time in the AF, for some 32 years.  He covered most of the world before retiring in 1990.  He and his wife Nancy, who also attended the games, have issued a challenge to the rest of us; they have 5 children and 19 grandkids!  Can anyone top that?  Ralph Bledsoe and Bill Dickey may be trying..?  Al has added another challenge;  'Since graduation, he has had permanent residences in 15 different cities in 4 different states and 3 foreign     countries'.(Anyone want to try that one?  Mike O.?, Ralph B. ?..)
Grigsby, Fred, 3721 Tabor Court, Wheat Ridge, CO, 80033-5341,  phone:  303.431.1496, tdfg@ecentral.com
Fred arrived late and left early but is still one of the good ones.  He and Dorothy have finally retired (almost) and are traveling the country and the world, visiting their 3 boys and 1 girl, and that 1 grandson and those 6 granddaughters!
Gross, Ewell B., 8035 Woodhue Rd, Dallas, TX, 75228-5905, phone: 214.321.2861
I have had no response from him at this address to date.  The Book lists him as married to Jerra and having 1 son.  Another hard one to pin down!  This is one that our Dallas troops might check out for us?
Haney, W.F., 805 Main St. PMV 300445, Bandera,, TX 78003
My letter to Bill at this address came back as 'Unclaimed".  He and Cora have 2 sons according to the Book.  Anyone out there with a better address or a phone number?
Harris, Claude, 16314 E. 81st Ct. N., Owasso, OK, 74055,  phone: 918.272.2659
Claude and his wife are taking retirement one step at a time..  Or more correctly, one trip at a time.  He reports on 'excellent health' and trips to Alaska, Kentucky, Arizona,Montana, Idaho, Wyoming and Colorado!  To give the RV a rest, they also took a cruise out of New Orleans.  They reassess things each five years and if all is OK, they go for another five!  They have 1 son and 3 daughters which may give them something else to do.  You may recall he 'provided' the tu frat house for the bonfire in '51.
Holubec, Melton, 107 Douglas St, Herford, TX 79045-4019, phone: 806.364.8596
No response from Mel at this address to date.  Mel is listed in the Book as retired military, like many of us, and he and Beverly have 2 sons and 3 daughters.  I need help with this one also.
Hufford, Paul, 2302 Golden Pond, Kingwood, TX 77345-1601
I have received no response from Paul, but I had him located in Humble. He has probably not retired as of yet, in that the Book lists him as President of Gasair, Inc.  He and Janet have 2 sons and 1 daughter.  Need verification on this, troops!
Jones, John Paul, 1616 Wilson Rd, Ft. Worth, TX 76112,  jjones3465@aol.com
John has checked in!  He responded to my e-mail asking if the data I had on him was correct and his response was, 'Yep'.          Obviously a man of few words.  JP is retired from LTV Missile Systems Group and he and his wife Melba have 3 sons.
King, Robert C., 104 Brancaster, Williamsburg, VA, 23188, phone: 757.229.0260, BOBCK@aol.com
Bob is without a doubt the classic Aggie-Ex!   He has been in contact with many of us, in addition to Ags in'52 and '53.   He has an excellent memory of all the news he has heard concerning the troops over the years and enjoys sharing that info.  As such, he has been a great help in this effort of mine!  He has also come onto several photographs of our fish band days and he needs some help identifying all those Ags.  Bob provided me with news concerning New York Aggies caught in the WTC attack.  A bad day for us all!  Bob is still consulting. He and Ann have one son and two daughters.
Landers, Roger Q., 3205 Briargrove Ln. , San Angelo, TX, 76904,  phone: 915.944.9788, r-landers@tamu.edu
Jake has been in San Angelo for the last 22 or so years, retired from the A&M extension service and 'writing and ranching for fun.'  He has also been a great help to me in my search for the missing troops of the fish band of '50.  He and Helen have 1 son and 1 daughter, and enough grandkids to 'keep him busy keeping them busy!'
McClure, Gerald B., P.O. Box 825, Socorro, NM, 87801, phone: 505.835.3061, mcclure@sdc.org
I go by 'Jerry' since my army years of long ago.  Rosemary and I have been married 44 years as of this writing and have retired, for the moment, in this very small town.  We are both doing as well as may be expected of someone as old as we feel on occasion. Our two daughters are doing well in
Dallas and Houston but have only managed one grandkid between  them.  I look forward to hearing from more of our fish banders.
McLaughlin, Robert H., 9011 Liptonshire Dr., Dallas, TX, 75238-3645, phone: 214.348.8129, Charbob@swbell.net
Bob, who was my 'roomie' for 4 years, retired in 1985 after 20 or so years with Texas Instruments.  He is one of those talented ones who was then able to start a second career in something he really enjoyed doing; managing roses at a major nursery!  I have since heard he has been seen on the Home and Garden TV channel with his miniature roses!  He and Charlotte have a boy and a girl, both in California, living the good life and doing well.  In face, Bob tells me that his son, Leo, and his wife are about to make him a Grandad for the first time!  Congratulations to you and Charlotte!  Keep us posted!
Morgan, Robert T., 6228 Tarbet Cove, Memphis, TN, 38119, phone: 901.682.1281,  plowboy@midsouth.rr.com
'Retirement in '99 from Farm Equipment career has provided time to care of wife since onset of Alzheimer's.  Working part time as tax preparer for H& R Block and being with grandchildren fills out retirement just fine.  Three of his four kids are still in Memphis; one Aggie, John '82, now Exec VP of National Cottonseed Assn. in Memphis, two Baylor Bears, and one Memphis U Tiger.'
O'Brien, Mike D.,  6239 Park Lane, Dallas, TX 75225. phone: 972.580.1879, mobri@amkor.com
Mike just checked in!  Married to Liz for the last 43 years, they have one son, who has provided them with five grandkids, is currently serving in the Air Force.  Mike ran his own company in Singapore for five years, then 28 years with Texas Instruments and the last 14 years with Amkor Technology Inc.  He says he has no plans to retire at this time but with the better part of two retirements stacked-up in the wings.??
Pilippus, Hugh H., 405 Sagecrest Dr., San Antonio, TX, 78232,  aggie1954@msn.com
Hugh has been guiding hunters through Texas and New Mexico for about the last 16 years or so after retiring from the AF in '75.  He was able to provide me with info on several of our missing as well as some of the non-band members of '54.  He and June have 1 son and 1 daughter according to the Book.  Hugh would like to make contact with Baker Brogdon.
Piehl, Patrick,  2709 Cimarron Blvd., Apt.#139, Corpus Christi, TX 78414, phone: 361.992.7932
Jake reported receiving a card from Pat, years ago, saying ' he is retired from the car and truck business'.  He has 2 sons and 2 daughters, three of whom graduated from A&M.  The two boys were in the band and one of  them was on the bugle rank!  Pat's oldest boy Jimmy, has informed me that as a result of two car wrecks, the first in the summer of '52 when  he spent  time in a body cast and then on crutches for over a year ( which is why he didn't graduate), and the second in 1970 when he was in a coma for 13 days and suffered a broken back and head injuries.  These injuries have finally caught up with our Aggie buddy.  He has a problem reading and writing and is dependent upon an electric wheel chair to get around.  Jim says that his dad has no problem speaking and would appreciate hearing from all of us.  He is currently in an assisted living facility and 'is not doing too bad.'  Pat has always prided himself on being an Aggie and a member of the Aggie band!  Let's not forget him troops.. he would like to remain in the loop with us.  Please, lets give him a call every now and again!
Porter, R. Gordon, 5441 CR 4491, Aransas Pass, TX 78336, sanpat4@go.com
Gordon has checked in!  After a stint in the army, the Agriculture Extension Service gave him a 3-year education in the fine points of 'stoop labor' to which he soon added ranch management and cattle operations.  He gave up on 'row crop farming' in '85 and  was elected as San Patricio County Commissioner in '87.  The cattle business was the next to go in '99 and he is 'managing to survive'.  Gordon and his wife Sharon share 2 sons, 2 daughters and 7 grandkids.  "Good to make contact after all these years, and good memories, and a lot of enjoyable times".  Gordie, we are sure glad to have you back!
Porter, Richard N., Suny Stony Brook, Dept of Chemistry, Stony Brook, NY, 11794-3400, phone: 516.632.7936,
          rporter@notes.cc.sunysb.edu
Dick joined us late but is still one of our finest.  He has recently retired as a professor of chemistry at Stony Brook.  He was a consultant to Los Alamos for a number of years and coauthored a book, "Atoms and Molecules" in 1970.  He is now working on another book, with appropriate interruptions for travel and golf.  Checkout his web page.   He and his wife Martha have one daughter, one son, three granddaughters and a grandson born in September of 2001. His son-in-law was within 'a Kyle Field Length' of the WTC ground zero.  All is OK with the family.
Post, Jerry V., 1541 Catherine Ct., Suwanee, GA, 30024
Jerry continues to be unresponsive at this address.  My letters to him have not been returned so the address must be at least close! I would appreciate the troop's help in getting him located!  Has anyone heard from him in recent years?  The Book lists Jerry and wife Easie as having 2 sons and a daughter.
Prague, Thomas G., 1421 Limetree Ln., Irving , TX, 75061-4507
Tom is listed in the Book as married to Sherrie and obviously gainfully employed with the CPA firm of Prague Battle and Company Inc.  I haven't received a response at the noted address and would appreciate one or more of our troops in the Irvine area to look him up and give him a call.  Let me hear..
Price, Carter, 731 Virgin Oak, San Antonio, TX, 78258-3130, phone: 210.497.0938, louprice1@juno.com;
Carter and his wife of almost 50 years, Lou Ann, moved to San Antonio in 1996 after 32 years with the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville.  Retirement didn't last long as he is now with the Palo Alto Community College teaching Economics.  His last contact with our bunch was at the '54 class reunion in 1994 where he met with Bob Morgan and Tommy Barron and their wives.  He mentioned he has had no other contact with the troops some of you SA locals give him a call.
Quast, Don C., #9 Remington, Houston, TX, 77005
I'm very glad to report that Don has checked in! I last ran into Don over 20 years ago at the Hermann Hospital in Houston where my father-in-law, Rosemary and myself had a 1-minute conference in the hall concerning the status of Rosemary's mom.  Due to the stress of the minute, I did not recognize the Gulf Oil Company doctor as our own Don Quast!  We are very thankful that he was there for her! He tells me that he is still doing surgery every day, and plans to stay with it a while longer.  He has a place in Taos, NM where he and Audrey can relax on occasion.  They have 2 sons and 3 daughters.
Rooth, Robert L., 113 Toledo Cir., Hemphill, TX, 75948,  phone: 409.787.3489
Bob and Joan are firmly settled 'on the shores of Toledo Bend' after 31 years with TRW-Mission Mfg.  They have three sons, all married off and doing well.  He mentioned that Ernie Boehler introduced him to Joan back in '50 and served as his best man when they married.
Steel, Tom R., 12919 Chitalpa Place NE, Albuquerque. NM 87111, phone: 505.821.5805, tomcarly@swcp.com
Prior to their move to Albuquerque in January 2001, Tom and Carlene lived in Santa Fe for 11 years.  Prior to then, he enjoyed 22 years in the AF and another 20 years or so just getting retired.  He has become an actor, performing in plays and melodramas throughout New Mexico and as an extra in movies and film commercials.  They have one daughter, two grand kids, two step-kids and a large, good ol' dog.
Thomas, Stanley A., 4205 Georgetown Dr., Flower Mound, TX 75028,  sathomas54@hotmail.com
Stan was another one who didn't know he was missing!  I had him listed in Warner Robins, GA of all places!  After his vacation with Uncle Sam in Korea, he returned to CPA work with Aggies Carrol Philips and Joe Hickman at a large firm in the Dallas area.  He was forced into early retirement in'92 (mandatory for partners) at age 60.  (Poor guy)  They have now relocated to Flower Mound to be a bit closer to one of their two daughters and the granddaughter.
Visoski, Steve B., 887 Glenchester, Houston, TX, 77079-3450,  s-rvisoski@worldnetatt.net
Steve hasen't responded to my e-mail as of yet but reports have it that he and Ruth are enjoying retirement from Chevron and living the 'good' life in Houston.  They have two sons and a daughter, according to the Book.  One of you Houstonians might give him a call for me and get an up-date .
Williams, Clayton W., 6 Destra Dr. Ste.3000, Midland, TX, 79705-5516  (No Response)
I've had no luck getting through to Clayton.  I'm sure there are many people trying to bend his ear every day.  Next time he shows up at Muster or a reunion, we'll jump him!

This is the extent of our known survivors.  Those we still need to get any kind of leads on are:

Bowles, J.E., , , , , , , , Missing
Duke, Melvin E., ?, , Missing
Foster, Leon, ?, , , , , Missing
Harville, W.E., ?, , , , Missing
Zak, Albin J. , , , , , ,  Missing

We need all the help we can muster in locating these troops!  Any information, recollections, or comments are appreciated.

And finally, those we have truly lost:

Alexander, Daniel L., Dec
Barron, Walter T., Dec
Becker, Fred W., Dec
Carr, William S., Dec
Hennigan, James K., Dec
Reid, Joe, Dec
Scott, D., Dec
Threadgill, Edwin G., Dec

Hopefully, there are no more to be added to this list.  Please advise.

The general consensus of the Troops is to 1) Try and make the 50th Class of '54 reunion  and/or 2) Attend a '54 Fish Band Reunion, if anyone can organize such a thing.  I personally like the sound of the Band reunion although there are many class members I would also like to try and recognize. Stay Close!
